Entertainment news: Happy Birthday David Bowie; Jay-Z raps about new baby; Katy Perry, David Archuleta and Rachel Weisz in the Philippines

Bring back Bowie

David Bowie turned 65 years old today, amid calls from his fans to return to the world stage.

“I know David Bowie is 65 today but god I wish he'd come out of retirement,” said comedian David Baddiel on Twitter.

Bowie, known for hits like 'Life on Mars' and 'Ziggy Stardust', as well as for various colorful stage personas, left the limelight back in 2004 after suffering a blocked artery during a performance at the Hurricane Festival in Germany.

According to Scotsman.com writer Andrew Eaton-Lewis however, “Bowie is such a part of the musical landscape, an influence on everyone from Franz Ferdinand to Janelle Monae, that he can disappear from public view for years yet remain perpetually in it.”

“He might not be throwing a public 65th birthday, but plenty of other people are – Google 'David Bowie 65th birthday' and you’ll find parties everywhere,” he added.

Jay-Z: 'Glory' for Blue Ivy

Music magnate and rapper Jay-Z released a new song on his website dedicated to his newborn daughter with pop star Beyonce. The baby, named Blue Ivy Carter, is the couple's first child.

Rachel Weisz, Daniel Craig and the new Bourne

The Manila Bulletin reports that actress Rachel Weisz is in the Philippines for the shooting of The Bourne Legacy, the latest in the Bourne action movie franchise.

Weisz landed on January 8, with filming to take place this week. Among the areas in Manila closed off for the shoot are San Andres street (from Jan. 11 to 15); streets in Remedios (Jan. 18 and 19); San Andres corner Quirino and Taft Avenue (Jan. 14), areas in Intramuros (Jan. 25, Feb. 17 and 18); Jones Bridge (Feb. 5), and Ramon Magsaysay Boulevard (Feb. 8 to 15).

According to rumors, Weisz's husband, James Bond and Girl with the Dragon Tattoo star Daniel Craig may visit Weisz while she is in the country.

David Archuleta, Philippine TV star

David Archuleta, of American Idol fame, is expected to appear in a local television series by TV5, which will also star Jasmin Curtis-Smith and Eula Caballero.

“The signing of Archuleta is seen to further boost the attempts of TV5, currently the third biggest broadcasting network in the Philippines, to climb up the rankings,” says InterAksyon.com.

Archuleta has previously announced that he will be taking a two-year hiatus from his music career to become a Mormon missionary.

Katy Perry, Live in Manila

Despite her recent break-up with husband of 14 months Russel Brand, singer Katy Perry is bouncing back with The California Dreams Tour, which will take her to the SM Mall of Asia Concert Grounds on January 22.
