Thia Megia on Idol winner Scotty: “I’m not one to say if he has a crush on me”

American Idol finalist Thia Megia dismissed rumors that AI season 10 winner Scotty McCreery has crush on her, a rumor that started with observations from the media.

“Oh, wow, that’s something new,” Megia said, mildly amused.

She said she was actually close to all of the guys in the group and hangs out with them a lot.

"I had a few moments with Scotty and he's such a genuine person. He's very giving, very nice, and very sweet with everybody. I'm not one to say if he has a crush on me. Maybe it must come from him,” she said, adding, "But all in all, he's a very nice person and any girl would be lucky to have him as a boyfriend."

Megia is the youngest Idol finalist because of the lowering of the minimum age. At 16 years old, she said she’d “love to” have a boyfriend but added that, "But I still have to know for myself if I'm ready.”

Hailing from Pampanga, Megia’s last visit to the Philippines was when she was four years old. Her old family name was Mejia but her parents Loreto and Cynthia changed it to Megia shortly after leaving the country for the United States in 1968.

“Coming back and being welcomed like this is amazing and am always inspired to be a Filipino,” she said.

Megia also expressed interest in building a career both in the US and in the Philippines.

While also inspired by international singing sensation Charice Pempengco, Megia asserted that they’re two different artists. The soft-spoken Fil-Am is best known for her beautiful tone when singing slow songs, unlike Pempengco who is famous for belting out ballads.

News also came out that Megia will be singing with another Filipino-American sensation Maria Aragon at boxing champion and Sarangani Rep. Manny Pacquiao’s upcoming fight in Novembers.

Megia will be singing the “Star Spangled Banner” while Aragon will sing “Lupang Hinirang,” the Philippine national anthem.
