The mockumentary Ang Babae sa Septic Tank bagged major accolades during the awarding night of the 7th Cinemalaya Independent Film Festival at the Cultural Center of the Philippines (CCP) Main Theater last July 24.
The film, which makes fun of making indie films, swept the New Breed Full Length category, taking Best Film, Best Director (Marlon Rivera), Best Screenplay (Chris Martinez), and Best Actress (Eugene Domingo), as well as an Audience Choice Award.
“Kung hindi pa ako nakakain ng dumi hindi ako mananalo. And to our foreign friends, I had to eat s--t to win this,” Domingo said as she accepted the Balanghai trophy for the Best Actress award.
Meanwhile, Edgar Allan Guzman won the Best Actor for the campus sex comedy film Ligo Na U, Lapit Na Me.
Loy Arcenas's film Niño bagged four trophies including Special Jury Prize, Best Supporting Actress (Sharmaine Buencamino), Best Supporting Actor (Art Acuna), and Best Production Design for the New Breed category.
Ang Sayaw ng Dalawang Kaliwang Paa was awarded Best Cinematography (Arvin Viola) and Best Original Music Score (Christine Muyco and Gemma Pamintuan).
New Breed's Best Editing (Lawrence Fajardo) and Best Sound (Mike Idioma) awards went to the film Amok.
However, the jury decided not to award Best Feature and Best Screenplay for this year's Directors' Showcase category because “none of the four finalists merited the citations.”
Jeffrey Jeturain's Bisperas received awards as Best Film, Best Actress (Racquel Villavicencio), Best Supporting Actress (Julia Clarete), Best Cinematography (Roberto Yñiguez) and Production Design (Rodrigo Ricio) in the Directors' Showcase.
Busong, which was earlier shown in this year's Cannes International Film Festival, won the Best Director for Aureus Solito, and Best Original Music Score and Best Sound for Diwa de Leon.
An Adolfo Alix Jr.'s film Isda garnered a Best Actor award for Bembol Roco and Best Editing for Benjamin Tolentino.
Meanwhile, Jaime Pebangco won the Best Supporting Actor award for the film Patikul which also gathered the Audience Choice Award for Directors' Showcase category and the Special Cinemalaya Kids Treats Award.
Walang Katapusang Kwarto by Emerson Reyes won the Best Film, Best Screenplay, and Audience Choice Award for the Short Feature category.
The Best Director award went to Rommel Tolentino for the film Niño Bonito, while Henry Frejas's Hanap Buhay took home the Special Jury Prize.
