Brillante's 'Lola' wins 2 awards in Iran

Brillante Mendoza's film Lola garnered two Crystal Simorghs earlier this week in Iran, at the 29th Fajr Film Festival.

The Fajr Film Festival is held each year to commemorate the 1979 Islamic Revolution.

According to the Tehran Times, Lola won Best Film, and its leads Anita Linda and Rustica Carpio shared the Best Actress Award.

The film also won the Grand Knight Award last year in the 27th Miami International Film Festival, among other awards it received in 2009 and 2010.

Lola was entered in the "International Cinema" category of the Fajr Film Festival instead of "Asian Cinema", having been credited as a joint French and Philippine production.

The Fajr Film Festival, which started on February 5, will run until February 15 in Tehran.
