“Limbunan” by Moro filmmaker Teng Mangansakan narrates how a Maguindanaoan family prepares for the wedding of the 16-year old Ayesha to a man she does not know. The limbunan is an isolation room – a phase of the wedding preparations wherein the bride-to-be is isolated even from her family as the event draws near. The conflict lies in the re-appearance of Ayesha’s childhood suitor.
Shot in Maguindanao, the Bureau of Cultural Heritage (BCH) in the Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao is to be shown at the Shariff Kabunsuan Cultural Center, Cotobato in November 4.
Representatives of BCH said the film showing will showcase Maguindanao’s talent and culture, including practices that are now fast disappearing.
The film will again be screened, this time in Germany, on November 12 for the Wiesbaden Independent Film Festival.
Film giant MGM to merge with smaller rival in an attempt to remedy bankruptcy
Hollywood studio Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer is now facing reorganization with rival US firm Spyglass Entertainment to protect itself from bankruptcy. The studio, which had produced the James Bond franchise and Rocky series and which boasts of a 4,000-strong back catalogue since its founding in 1924, has a massive USD4 billion dept pile.
The legendary studio– famous for its roaring lion logo– had to postpone the makeing of the still-untitled 23rd James Bond movie until further notice after supposedly failing to attract a buyer. It is rumored that the said film, as well as Jeepers Creepers 3 and the remake of Red Dawn had caused MGM’s financial crisis.
Spyglass founders Gary Barber and Roger Birnbaum will be co-chief executives of MGM.
Founded in 1998, Spyglass also has a strong catalogue of films including last year’s Star Trek and comedy film Get Him to the Greek, which starred British comedian Russell Brand.
