Televangelist Quiboloy anoints Gibo

The much sought-after endorsement from Kingdom of Jesus Christ (KJC) founder Pastor Apollo Quiboloy – one of the country's most influential religious leaders – went to administration bet Gilberto "Gibo" Teodoro.

Pastor Quiboloy has formally announced his support to Teodoro before 50,000 of his flock at the annual Thanksgiving and Worship concert at the KJC: The Name Above Every Name compound in Catitipan, Davao City.

"Tonight, let it be known, and to all Filipinos, that the Almighty Father has appointed the president of this nation, he is no other than Gilberto "Gibo" Teodoro."

He also expressed his support for Senator Manuel "Mar" Roxas of the Liberal Party for vice-president, although he did not say whether he would supporting any senatorial candidate.

The heavily-attended gathering was also viewed worldwide via the group's Sonshine Media Network.

Teodoro, who admitted that he personally seeks "spiritual guidance" from the pastor, said he was thankful for the endorsement.

Speaking to Quiboloy's followers, Teodoro graciously returned the favor by describing the evangelist as "not just a great spiritual leader but also a man with an intense patriotism and love for our country," which was greeted with wild cheers from the audience.

Prior to the announcement, Quiboloy was said to have had "sleepless nights praying to the Father" about who he should endorse as president for the coming polls. He also went into seclusion at his

Prayer Mountain in Barangay Tamayong, Davao City for three days, according to a KJC statement.

Quiboloy, in his speech, thanked the Father for trusting him to be "His guide in making a very crucial decision that will chart the course of our nation."

Magaling at Matalino

Quiboloy was supposed announce his choice of candidates on April 25, in time for his 60th birthday. It was deferred to May 2 instead, saying that "Divine revelation" was not clear yet at the time.

Nonetheless, his chosen presidential bet has already been made clear on his birthday after he hinted that his personal choice is someone who is "magaling at matalino" which jibes with Teodoro's campaign slogan, "Galing at Talino."

Teodoro was among the presidentiables who attended Quiboloy's Disney-themed birthday celebration. Also present were former President Joseph Estrada, Manny Villar, Richard Gordon, Jamby Madrigal, Nicanor Perlas and fellow evangelist Eddie Villanueva of the Jesus is Lord (JIL) movement.

Only LP standard bearer Benigno "Noynoy" Aquino III failed to attend the party. He also missed the presidential forum organized by Quiloboy dubbed as "Sukatan 2010" held last March 9.

Meanwhile, Sen. Roxas said that while he is thankful for the endorsement, he will try to convince Quiboloy to support his running mate Aquino instead of Teodoro.

Quiboloy's congregation, which boasts of over six million followers, is known to be a solid voting bloc. The group, which claims membership in other continents such as North America, Africa and Europe, has a total of three million registered voters in the upcoming May 10 polls.

The KJC tries to reach its members worldwide through its ACQ Broadcasting Network, Sonshine radio station, Pinas and Sikat newspapers and Guide magazine – all part of Sonshine Media International.
