Reproductive health (RH) advocates under the Philippine Legislators' Committee on Population and Development Foundation (PLCPD) and the Philippine Non-Governmental Organizations Council on Population, Health, and Welfare (PNGOC) have endorsed 14 senatorial candidates in the next month's general elections.
At a press conference, the “pro-RH” candidates endorsed by the groups are:
- Nereus Acosta (Liberal Party, or LP)
- JV Bautista (Sanlakas/Pwersa ng Masang Pilipino, or PMP)
- Martin Bautista (LP)
- Representative Ruffy Biazon (LP)
- Senator Pia Cayetano (NP)
- Senator Miriam Defensor-Santiago (People's Reform Party/Nacionalista Party, or NP)
- Senator Jinggoy Estrada (PMP)
- Representative Risa Hontiveros (Akbayan/LP)
- Yasmin Busran Lao (LP)
- Representative Ferdinand Marcos, Jr. (Kilusang Bagong Lipunan/NP)
- Representative Liza Maza (Gabriela/NP)
- Representative Satur Ocampo (Bayan Muna/NP)
- Gilbert Remulla (NP)
- Adel Tamano (NP)
According to PLCPD director Ramon San Pascual, the said senatorial candidates have "proven track record[s] in championing the the reproductive health bill." The said bill, sponsored by Hontiveros and Albay Representative Edcel Lagman, Sr., seeks state-subsidized RH education, maternal healthcare and medication, and the distribution of contraceptives.
“We call on other RH advocates to support the candidates, who, despite the threats from some leaders of the [Roman] Catholic church, have remained firm on their stand to fight for the rights of women and to uplift the lives of Filipino families in general,” PNGOC head Eden Divinagracia said.

Two news reports, meanwhile, reported contrasting stories on the RH advocates' “endorsement” of Bangon Pilipinas senatorial candidate Kata Inocencio.
Inocencio was included in the endorsed senatoriables list of the groups in a gmanews.tv report. On the other hand, abs-cbnnews.com reported that Inocencio was rejected by the groups.
“We are pro-life, but anti-abortion. We are for the reproductive health, pro-women, but we will have to review the bill,” Inocencio, who attended the press conference organized by the RH groups, said.
The RH Bill, at Section 3f (5), seeks for the “prevention of abortion and management of post-abortion complications.”
However, Bangon Pilipinas presidential candidate and evangelist Eddie Villanueva, along with the Roman Catholic church, rejected the said bill due to the view that the use of artificial contraceptives like condoms is tantamount to abortion.
