Gordon, Fernando push manifesto of change

"Transformer" tandem Sen. Richard Gordon and former Metro Manila Development Authority (MMDA) chairman Bayani Fernando envision the Philippines as an “enabled, engaged, and noble country” should they assume the top positions come May elections.

The Bagumbayan presidential and vice-presidential candidates sat down with members of Blogwatch.ph on Thursday and discussed how they wish to affect this change in the society.

For vice-presidential hopeful Fernando, known for his “firm” implementation of regulation and order since his MMDA stint, discipline still holds the key to the solutions of the country's problems.

“Follow the laws of the country, almost all our problems, the solution to them are already in our laws.”

Meanwhile, Gordon said he aims to advance educational development programs where improvement in the country's education system is not limited to giving the educators a raise and going about the typical facilities enhancement. One suggestion he made was the implementation of “a Kindle for every public school student.”

Kindle is a software and hardware platform developed by Amazon.com that has the capacity to store and display over 1000 books in digital file.

The presidential aspirant suggested that 50 centavos of every text message be allocated to the education budget and used for the purchase of these devices.

“You can put an entire curriculum in one Kindle. All the books needed from elementary until college, or even for graduate schools,” Gordon explained to the bloggers.

He soon followed it up with a challenge, “The question is, do you want that (to allocate 50 centavos per text to education) to happen? If yes, then let's do it!”

Aside from providing an easier medium of learning for the students, Gordon reiterated the importance of training the teachers to become more competent and able.
