The Jollibee Foods Corp. (JFC) is getting ready to build its first commissary in China this year.
In a report to the Philippine Stock Exchange, JFC said that its subsidiary Jollibee Worldwide Pte. Ltd. has already signed an agreement with the Singapore-based Hua Xia Harvest Holdings Pte. Ltd. to establish a manufacturing operation to supply products primarily to the JFC Group.
"As the initial project, the joint venture plans to build and operate a food processing plant in Shucheng county in Anhui province. This commissary will supply the products for the restaurants of Jollibee in China," said JFC.
The report added that the JFC subsidiary “intends to invest a total of RMB50 million [renminbi] [P338,595,470.52] in this facility.”
The JFC currently operates two businesses in China - Yonghe King with 177 stores located mainly in Beijing, Shanghai, Shenzhen and Wuhan regions, and Hong Zhuang Yuan with 49 stores scattered all over Beijing. By next year, the JCF is also expected to own 55 percent of the San Pin Wang restaurant chain, which has 34 stores in South China.
The commissary is expected to begin operations in 2011. Up until now, the company had been depending on third party suppliers for its products supply in China.
The JFC operates the country’s largest fast-food network, with 1,584 stores nationwide, 700 of which are under its eponymous Jollibee brand. It also operates 257 Jollibee branches abroad.
