A group of hold-uppers killed a 20-year-old medical student from the Pamantasan ng Lungsod ng Maynila (PLM) during a robbery along V. Del Fierro Street near corner Gen. Lukban and Juan Luna Streets in Tondo last Saturday.
According to PO3 Jaime Gonzales Jr., of the Manila Police District-homicide section, the crime occurred at around 3:30 in the morning. Mary Roxan Musngi of Gagalangin was on her way home when three men on motorcycle stopped her and demanded she hand over her backpack. She reportedly resisted and was repeatedly stabbed in the chest.
Witnesses, including a 17-year-old student from Fatima College and a 16-year-old STI student, gave chase but the robbers escaped in the direction of Juan Luna towards Pritil market. They made off with an unspecified amount’s worth of the victim’s belongings, including cash, a mobile phone, laptop and medical books. Musngi died while receiving treatment at the Tondo General Medical Center.
Although a CCTV camera was in the area, it was reportedly broken and could not be used to help in the investigation.
Musngi was a student leader in PLM, being an elected official of the PLM College of Science Student Council and a member of campus-based political organization Bukluran Students Alliance.
Tondo, the most densely-populated area in the country, is reportedly notorious for a high crime rate.
