Former Department of Budget and Management Secretary Emilia T. Boncodin succumbed to kidney failure, her close friend Black and White Movement convenor Leah Navarro announced Monday.
Boncodin died at the National Kidney Institute in Quezon City, where she had been reportedly undergoing dialysis for months. No other details about her death have been released as of posting time.
Boncodin was a professor at the National College of Public Administration and Governance at the University of the Philippines, Diliman prior to her appointment to President Gloria Macapagal Arroyo's cabinet in 2001. She was a member of the Committee of Experts in Public Administration of the United Nations in New York and was an independent director and chair of the audit committee of the Petron Corporation.
She was more known as a member of the "Hyatt 10" – seven cabinet secretaries under the Arroyo administration who announced their collective resignation at the Hyatt Regency Hotel in Pasay City at the height of the Hello Garci scandal in 2005.
