Boxer Z Gorres has already opened one eye and made the “thumbs-up” sign after a critical surgery that removed a blood clot on his brain, his manager disclosed today.
“Z's progress has continued to be very good,” said Michael Aldaguer, president of Gorres' handler ALA Productions.
According to Gorres' trainer Edito Villamor, his ward gave him the thumbs-up sign after he was asked if he was feeling okay. The boxer also reportedly opened his left eye to see his trainer better.
Aldaguer added that Gorres' brain pressure has stabilized and that there would be no need for further monitoring. He said that doctors will also start weaning the boxer from his ventilators so he can breathe on his own.
Gorres, 27, was rushed to the hospital following his successful bout against Columbian Luis Melendez in Las Vegas on Friday. He collapsed on the ring moments after he was declared winner. He went into medically-induced trauma thereafter, where doctors removed part of his skull.
The Filipino boxing champion is married to Datchess and is father to four: Dheybert, 7, Sheiladhey, 5, Zhey, 3 and Khodney, five months old.
