On Friday the Sandiganbayan ordered the Presidential Commission on Good Government (PCGG) to confiscate three pieces of property owned by the Marcoses in San Juan to compensate for millions of pesos said to have been illegally transferred by the late president Ferdinand Marcos.
A 1,584-square-meter property on Don Mariano Marcos Street belonging to Ilocos Norte representative Imelda Marcos has already been confiscated by PCGG.
By virtue of the alias writs of execution issued by the Sandiganbayan Fifth Division, PCGG has also been ordered to seize two other properties owned by the Marcoses: one on P. Guevarra corner Maude Street measuring 864 square meters, and a property on Claro M. Recto Street measuring 932 square meters.
Sandiganbayan's decisions resulted from their September 2010 ruling on a malversation case against Marcos for illegally transferring funds from the National Food Authority, amounting to P10 million, to a private account.
According to the ruling, the fund was transferred from the NFA's account with the Philippine National Bank to a private account at Security Bank in 1983.
The ruling ordered Marcos to reimburse the said amount, plus 28 years worth of interest, moral and exemplary damages and attorney's fees, bringing the sum to a total of P43.8 million.
Imelda Marcos failed to comply with the ruling, resulting in the issuance of the alias writs.
In coordination with the PCGG, the Sandiganbayan filed a notice of levy with the Registry of Deeds in San Juan on October 13.
