Toe the line, Mike Defensor

mike-defensor-marcelle-fabieNation, Mike Defensor disappoints me.

You see, as a man with impeccable taste, Mike Defensor supports the president. This may have made him unpopular with a few bad eggs in this nation who don’t think that’s a good thing, but ultimately, like myself, he has drank the Kool-Aid our beloved president offers us. He’s gone even as far as to run under the president’s best buddy, Manny Villar, instead of the president’s appointed paper replacement, Gibo Teodoro.

That shows us a man with character and a man with faith in President Gloria Macapagal Arroyo’s (GMA)capabilities as a leader.

To prove to everyone that he was the real deal, he invited the fine people of Blog Watch and yours truly took part in this meet and greet. Here was a man with all the power and righteousness bestowed upon him by his alliance with the Arroyo administration, and with all this power and influence, to my consternation...

... Mike Defensor decided to actually do something for this country.

How dare he? How dare he take away credit from our beloved president and make all his contemporaries look bad, by being behind the opening of NAIA Gate 3, by helping restart the PNR, by giving housing to countless people, and by being a tough customer in the crackdown on illegal logging during his stint with the Department of Energy and Natural Resources (DENR)? How dare he make it unfashionable to criticize anyone who’s pro-GMA, when that’s the only pleasure left available to our pseudo-intellectual sector of society?

Look at the nasty precedent Mr. Defensor is setting for all the other politicians who support GMA. He’s making all of them look bad! Why, it makes a presidentiable like Gibo Teodoro look terribly incompetent ever since he threw his support behind the president! This is a grave travesty, in my estimate, and I believe that as a member of the administration, Mike Defensor should fall in line with the rest of the pack and not do anything, lest he be accused of trying to show up the rest of the administration, who have indeed, not done anything. Or have they?

Why can’t he be more like Jules Ledesma who is a proven, beyond a shadow of doubt, man of action? Lots and lots of action, in fact, as his wife would attest. The difference is, Jules makes it ambiguous enough for the rest of the unenlightened to be not entirely sure if he truly has been doing anything for his constituency, and just to throw us off the track, he completely neglected his function as a lawmaker throughout his term by being perennially absent! That’s dedication to towing the line, and something Mike Defensor clearly isn’t capable of. For as long as the administration does so much for us yet appears to be doing nothing at all then they can take solace in the fact that patriotic Filipinos such as myself would see through the ruse and thank them for the good they’ve really done.

Nation, we are not blind. We are on to the administration’s game. We feel from a distance that they aren’t doing anything for us, but in reality, our gut tells us that they are. Mike Defensor has desecrated this fine tradition by blatantly showing that he is doing something for this nation. He is making everybody else look bad, and we can’t tolerate that.

With a very tight mayoral race in Quezon City coming up, we are faced with very big choices in Mike Defensor and incumbent Vice Mayor Herbert Bautista. There’s also Mel Mathay running, but who cares about that guy? Mike Defensor’s deplorable practice of being a man of visible action while under the president’s tutelage should not be forgotten in the coming elections as a grand stain on him. This is arguably worse than the Geograce-Nihao deal he is involved in despite being a supposed environmentalist. By leading the pack, he makes the pack look bad.

Ultimately, it’s up to Herbert Bautista to respond to this challenge by Mike Defensor, as this race appears to strictly be between the two of them. With accusations of questionable spending on food and drinks throughout his term, Bistek needs to show to the people that the garlic that makes his Kumander Bawang run was accounted for and not out of the ordinary.

Until then, sadly, not even my gut can tell you, dear Quezon City, whose campaign I can award my seal of approval to.

Marcelle Fabie on thePOC or Blogwatch is not to be confused with Marcelle Fabie anywhere else. The Marcelle Fabie of thePOC is a self-proclaimed patriotic Filipino, an administration sycophant, has no regard for the facts, and only believes in his gut and the power of truthiness. He is the lovechild of Stephen Colbert and Chip Tsao.

The real Marcelle Fabie is a professional mentalist, an online advertiser, a stand-up comedian, an ethicist, a satirist, a regular guest radio personality on 99.5 RT, and deems himself to be a liberal moderate. As far as political allegiances go, he is an egalitarian: he hates everyone equally. He blogs on mistervader.com.
